Lukenya Academy Primary School
Lukenya Academy Primary School
Our School is a community. We work together to ensure that the learning we provide is not solely of an academic nature. We teach children about the area, society and world in which they live.
Our pupils are taught to respect their peers, those they encounter and themselves. We pride ourselves on Traditional Values our levels of courtesy and the pupils strive to support and enhance our locale through charity work.
Our aim is for our young people to develop a sense of self-reliance, self esteem, self-discipline and self-respect through their care and attention to others.
Lukenya Academy admits children from Kindergarten, right up to class 8. We have three/four streams, Red, Green, Blue and Yellow class, with each class having a population of 35 pupils. We have students from all areas of the country, and from beyond our borders as well. Our small classrooms can only accommodate 35 or so pupils per class, but this affords us very personalized attention from teachers, who can give individual attention to their charges.
Each class has a teacher and an assistant teacher, to ensure continuity and close monitoring of the pupils class work and discipline. To enhance our academics, we participate in essay and math competitions, and also go on academic trips. Our class 8 has consistently posted very good KCPE results. We have maintained position 1 in the county for many years. This comes from hard work, resilience and dedication by our teachers and students.or admissions for classes 7 and 8.
Parental Involvement
Parental involvement is always encouraged in all aspects of school life. We work very closely with our parents in making effective education provision for our children. As a school, we seek to develop firm communication with our parents through the following means
- Regular Sms providing details about recent and up-to-date events whilst also providing future dates for your diaries and celebrating the work of the children.
- The school facebook/twitter/instagram accounts – @LukenyaSchools which provides regular updates and photographic images to enable all followers to see the day-to-day running of the school.
- The school website which provides relevant documents and policies as well as additional information about staff, our curriculum and links to newsletters and of course our Twitter account.
- Termly Curriculum letters provided by each class teacher which enables all parents to see what their child will be learning and studying each term.
- Visiting Days which are held once a term to provide all parents with an opportunity to look at children’s books and to discuss the progress of their own child/children.
- Individual reports which are written at the end of each academic year and will identify a pupil’s strengths, areas for development and future targets. However, please do not feel that you need to wait until a visiting day or until your child’s report is produced if you have any concerns over the progress of your child. We are always willing to listen, so please come in and talk to us.
We pride ourselves at Lukenya Academy that we offer all our children opportunities to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular clubs at key points throughout the year. These clubs are sports based as well as having an academic focus and enable our children to extend their interest and build on their skills through a variety of extra – curricular activities. Our sporting clubs include: Netball, Football, volley ball, swimming and Athletics. We hold a sports day for athletics in first term and for ball games for 2nd term Parents are informed of forthcoming events dates in letters which are sent out during the year, providing details of times, dates and the member of staff running the club. Furthermore, other clubs offer other elements which are non–sports based and these include; cookery, debate, scouting, choir, and music sessions.
Sports
Lukenya is very active in Sports. We have football, basketball, swimming, badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis taekwondo among many others.
In swimming, we have participated in galas across the country, with very pleasing results.
Football is the most popular game here. We have played both locally, and in international tournaments like Dana Cup in Denmark, and Costa Daurada Cup in Spain. We have won trophies every year since 2008. The training is always by professionals. Every November, there we hold a Talent Camp that hosts 10 to 16 year olds. In this camp there is rigorous training in basketball, football, swimming, film production and acting, and cookery.
Drama and Music
Lukenya Academy has made a name in the region, for the quality of plays and music we produce. We participate in music and drama festivals every year, and always get to the national competitions. We boast of a fully kitted out music and drama departments. We produce short documentaries and films which are all available on YouTube. Some of the titles include “Lost in the Hills:”, “Escape from Hell”, and “Out of all days” just to mention a few. All the script, directing, acting and production is done by our students. There is a lot of talent here!
A good boarding facility is one that offer a superior service in terms of food and board, which is able to cater for different taste and cultures. At Lukenya, we are proud to have those excellent facilities, which include spacious dorms, which are sub-divided into 4 occupant cubes to enhance privacy, especially to older children, a large ultra-modern dining Hall, with serves quality, well balanced and tasty meals. We also have flushing toilets. We provide warm water for showering as well. Very young children have the cleaning done for them by trained matrons, while the older ones do their own washing and grooming while keeping their living environment clean, but are still supervised by adults. This helps them in their later lives.
Outside class, the pupils are spoilt for choice, on the number of co-curricular activities they can engage themselves in; sports and games, entertainment, and leadership activities like scouting, educational trips, cookery, music lessons and horse riding. Pupils are encouraged to participate in these activities, as they broaden the mind.
All these have made the school a choice to many, across Kenya and the world. The school population has grown exponentially in the last few years. We hope to continue providing this life giving education for the foreseeable future as we have done unfailingly in the last twenty five years.
To enroll into Lukenya Academy is very easy. A prospective parent is invited to visit the school beforehand, and is taken round the school, so they can inspect the facilities. They also get to ask questions about specific areas they are concerned about. We provide any extra information they might not have at the end of the tour.
For very young children…up to grade 3, there are no interviews, the child wins a direct entry. From grade 4 to 6, the child has to do an interview. An interview fee of Ksh 1000 is charged, for facilitation.
The subjects tested are Maths, English and Science. If the child passes this written interview, admission forms are issued, and relevant information is issued, concerning uniforms, text books and term dates. Interviews are usually conducted in the school holiday months.
